Top 5 paddleboarding locations in Hampshire

Here are my top five paddleboarding spots in Hampshire

Stand-up paddleboarding is a popular hobby and Hampshire has some stunning locations to cruise around. Here are a few personal faves…

  1. Southsea and Eastney – well of course, this one had to be in the list as it’s on my doorstep! Sea paddleboarding takes some skill – especially if there’s a swell or bit of chop, planning for the weather and changeable conditions and being aware of drifting too far. But on a gorgeous calm day, you just can’t beat it. Go from Eastney’s Coffee Cup café to the pier and take in views of Southsea’s promenade.
  2. River Hamble – winding rises from Waltham Chase, past Botley, then Bursledon, past Hamble-le-Rice and then into the Solent. This is a tidal river, so check the times and launch locations. This great guide goes has more detail on the tides and the ride.
  3. Beaulieu River – another tidal river deep in the New Forest is perfect for a scenic tranquil paddleboarding. Glide along in total serenity, look out for wildlife like grazing ponies, deer and birds. Access the Beaulieu River from the quaint village of Buckler’s Hard.
  4. Langstone Harbour – high tide and calm seas, this is a wonderful place to hang out and if you’re lucky, you may spot the resident seals (I’ve yet to see them)! Launch from the Thatched House off Locksway Road or by Andrew Simpson Centres, Eastern Road.
  5. Basingstoke Canal – a relaxing meander down the canal, perfect for beginners and those who just enjoy a cruisy ride in a lovely location.

Hampshire packs in so much paddleboard-friendly diversity, from oceanside spots to meandering rivers and pristine lakes. With gems like these at your fingertips, there’s no excuse not to get out there and get paddling!
